Jennifer is passionate about teaching reading and writing. She has been in the field of special education for over 13 years. In 2004, Jennifer joined Teach for America as a special educator where she taught kindergarten through fifth grade. Her passion for reading instruction led her to be trained in a program based on the Orton Gillingham method. After achieving significant results with her students, she began conducting trainings to help strengthen other teachers' reading instruction. “My motivation as a teacher is to share my love of learning, and my gift has been working with struggling readers. There is no better feeling than to help someone become a strong reader and independent learner.”

Jennifer’s love of travel and learning took her abroad where she taught English to teenagers in Italy, to monks in India, and special education to elementary-aged students in Indonesia. Since, then she has worked in school districts, private schools, and non-profits providing mainly individualized reading instruction. In her free time, Jennifer can be found creating art, swimming, and adventuring in the Pacific Northwest with her husband Ben, baby girl, and dog/online sidekick Charlie.

Jennifer earned a B.A. in Global Studies from the University of California Santa Barbara and an M.S. in Special Education from Lehman College. She is a credentialed teacher in elementary special and general education.

Charlie has been involved in education for practically his entire life. After a few stints as the mascot for several small schools, Charlie started his second career working as Jen's assistant in 2012. He has since been promoted to the position of Prime Motivator, where he's found his true passion. He is fully committed to the reading advancement of your child and will get so excited to see learning in progress that he will dance in front of the screen. But "beware", he may sometimes ask for a virtual scratch behind his ears.

When he is not in the classroom, Charlie enjoys long runs through the weeds and chasing the chickens around the yard. While we can say that he has a number of close friends, the neighbor cat is not one of them. When he needs a break from protecting the house, he'll head to the beach to chase some waves.

Charlie is excited to meet your child and is eager to help them work towards reading success.

"For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education in general, a basic human right.... Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the means through which every man, woman and child can realize his or her full potential.”
